fundraising update

UPDATE: I just want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported this fundraiser. Whether you’ve donated or interacted kindly with my posts across Twitter and Instagram, it’s truly appreciated and I think you’re all just wonderful.

We (that includes all of you following!) reached the £2,000 target before even hitting the halfway point of this cookalong, so I think it makes sense to set a new target. How about we start with £3,000 and see how well we do with that! I’ll still continue to donate my £20 each month and am contemplating a marathon of some kind in 2022 to raise some extra cash. Now, running really isn’t my thing - picture Edina Monsoon, Ab Fab Series 1, Episode 2: ‘Fat’ - so be sure to stay tuned for that amusement!

I apologise if some of my posts going forward start to lack a little creativity, length, or imagination; certain happenings in our life at the moment are turning our everyday way of living upside down - in a good way - and things are only going to keep getting busier. And more interesting, too!

UPDATE 20th October 2022: £3,667 raised.

NEW TARGET FOR 2022: £5,000

365 Days of Nigella really began as a personal journey - a coping mechanism for dealing with my anxiety - that perhaps only I, and my household, would benefit from in the long run (although I do hope you find some pleasure in following it too). While it still remains so, I now realise there is also an opportunity to share a bigger story by raising awareness of an issue that is far too rife in our country and, indeed, the world.

I hate food waste. Even the thought of throwing away a forgotten mouldy mushroom that you find at the back of the fridge saddens me. So, I am using this cookalong and the attention it might attract to also increase awareness of food waste and hunger issues in the UK, by raising funds for FareShare; a UK charity fighting hunger and food waste, saving good food from going to waste and redistributing it to frontline charities.

I will be donating a minimum of £20 of the money I save each month - through better meal planning in this cookalong - for the duration that this challenge lasts, which will be more than 12 months if I stick to 3-4 entries per week.

I worry it may seem inappropriate to ask for donations to fight hunger via a food blog, but it is not my intention to be insensitive or cause upset. However, if you would like to contribute - that would be very much appreciated. I will also try to come up with other fundraising events throughout the duration to help meet our target - perhaps when gatherings are allowed again! I am raising the money via JustGiving and all donations go straight to FareShare, not my pocket.

Please note: 365 Days of Nigella is my own initiative and is not directly affiliated with Nigella Lawson, although - dare I say - I think she is a fan 😉.
